STUDLEY’S ANNOUNCES
SECOND-GENERATION OWNERS

80-year-old Rochester business handed down to Meulenbroek sons

One of Rochester’s longest-running family-owned businesses has been handed down to the next generation. David and Jeffrey Meulenbroek purchased Studley’s Flower Garden from their parents, Pieter and Betty Jane Meulenbroek, May 13, 2008.

Studley’s Flower Garden, which has specialized in providing its customers with fresh flowers from its downtown location for 80 years, was founded by Joshua Studley in 1928. From its origins as a florist with greenhouses, Studley’s has evolved through the years with market changes to provide a wealth of different products and services, from full service florist and garden center to landscaping and irrigation services. The Meulenbroeks bought the business from Studley in 1971.

David and Jeffrey Meulenbroek plan to continue offering cut flowers as well as flowering and foliage plants, annuals, hanging baskets, perennials and holiday plants. While fresh flowers were grown on site for more than 40 years, the Meulenbroeks have added a newer show greenhouse to the original greenhouse, which still stands on the site.

In recent years, Studley’s has added an extensive landscape and irrigation service operation under the direction of David Meulenbroek. The business has grown as more homeowners spend longer work days and choose to turn over garden responsibilities to professional services. Says David about his customers, “I take great pleasure in delighting my landscaping clients with the transformation of their yard into a lush and inviting flower garden.”

Jeffrey Meulenbroek devotes most of his efforts to growing the greenhouse crops and managing the garden center. His long-time experience in raising locally adapted flowering and foliage plants has produced a loyal and satisfied customer base. “I enjoy interacting with our customers on a regular basis so that I can be sure we’re offering the types of products our friends and neighbors are looking for,” he says.

As evidence of its satisfied local customer base, Studley’s has been voted Rochester’s favorite florist for the past 14 years in an independent survey. Both David and Jeffrey are New Hampshire Certified Landscapers by the New Hampshire Landscape Association. Studley’s also is committed to being an active participant in the downtown Rochester community; the business supports the Rochester Opera House, the Chamberlain Street School PTA and other local organizations.

Studley’s maintains a year-round staff of 12 employees in addition to part-time seasonal workers. Its long-time slogan—“The Difference Will Delight You!”—will continue to be the guiding principle for all staff at the business. Open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except Sundays, when it’s open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Studley’s Flower Garden is located at 82 Wakefield Street in down Rochester.
